The 2011 Annual Public Interest Law Association Fundraiser Auction
The 2011 Annual Public Interest Law Association Fundraiser Auction will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 6-10pm at the Mardi Gras Ballroom in The Orleans. Doors open at 5:30pm. Last year PILA raised over $29,000 which went to fund public interest grants for 5 Boyd students over the summer. Click here for details.
This year, PILA proudly honors Franny Forsman. Franny Forsman (pictured) was appointed the Federal Public Defender for the District of Nevada in 1989. Prior to her graduation from Notre Dame Law School in 1977, she had been a social worker, community organizer and drug treatment therapist. During her legal career, she has been a county public defender, a supervising staff attorney for the Nevada Supreme Court and a partner in a large law firm. She has been an adjunct Professor at the Boyd School of Law teaching Trial Advocacy for the last ten years. She served as the President of the State Bar of Nevada in 1995. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. She was the recipient of the Justice Lewis Powell Medal for Excellence in Advocacy in 1977 and the Kendra Alexandra Award from the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression in 1995, and was named the 1993 Nevada Civil Libertarian of the Year and the 1993 Nevada Attorneys for Criminal Justice Defender of the Year. She received the President’s Medal in 2002 and the Distinguished Nevadan Award in 2005 from University of Nevada-Las Vegas. She received the Emilie Wanderer Civil Libertarian of the Year award from ACLU Nevada in 2010. For information about donating, please see attached link

Floyd Lamb Park Pick-Up: Saturday, October 23, 2010 10:00am
The Environmental Legal Society (ELS) is partnering with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) to host its first annual Floyd Lamb Park Pick-Up! ELS will provide a barbecue and beverages for all volunteers. If you want to volunteer and have any dietary concerns, please mention concerns when you RSVP. Also, all equipment will be provided. Your help is needed to clean-up the four lakes and wilderness trails/area. Additionally, after the clean-up an NDOW employee who teaches fly-fishing clinics for the State has offered to instruct any interested volunteers in the art. Equal Justice Works 2010 Conference and Career Fair: Friday & Saturday, October 22-23, 2010
Registration is now Open -- This year's EJW Conference and Career Fair will be held on October 22 and 23 in Washington DC and will include more than 130 public interest employers, practitioners and leaders. Students may register and begin applying for posted positions now through September 24th at http://www.equaljusticeworks.org/events/ccf/student. Students interested in attending job fairs, who are looking for financial assistance to attend, can apply for assistance through the Career Services office, once you have secured an interview.
