Professor Lipman brings to the law school an exceptional record as an accountant, a lawyer, a teacher and a scholar. After working as a CPA and as the Chief Financial Officer for a chain of retail jewelry stores, Professor Lipman turned to law and won an Outstanding Law Student Award upon receiving her law degree from U.C. Davis. Following a similarly outstanding record in NYU’s Graduate Tax Program, she practiced with Irell & Manella LLP and O’Melveny & Myers LLP in Newport Beach. She joined the faculty of Chapman’s Argyros School of Business and Economics in 2001, where she has taught accounting and tax courses, has received an award for excellence in scholarship, teaching and research, and has been responsible for a substantial Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Professor Lipman moved to the law school in 2003, while continuing to do some teaching in the Argyros School of Business and Economics. She has written extensively on tax and accounting topics for legal and accounting periodicals, including Wisconsin Law Review, Florida Tax Review, Virginia Tax Review, Nevada Law Journal, American University Law Review, Harvard Environmental Law Review, Harvard Latino Law Review, Harvard Journal on Legislation, The Tax Lawyer, The Practical Tax lawyer, Taxes and Tax Notes. Professor Lipman is also a frequent speaker on tax subjects to law and business groups. She is a member of the California Bar, the Chair of the ABA-Tax Section Committee on Pro Bono, and an editor for the ABA-Tax Section NewsQuarterly. Professor Lipman teaches a variety of tax courses and is teaching the Federal Income Tax courses at UNLV this fall.
