UNLV Law’s Mediation Clinic is at the forefront of a statewide initiative that aims to mitigate the emotional trauma associated with child welfare cases by settling disputes at the mediation table rather than inside a courtroom.

The Chris Beecroft Lecture on Conflict Resolution debuted last spring, when Stanford Law Professor Deborah Hensler visited the Thomas & Mack Moot Court Facility to address the topic of formal versus informal arbitration settings. Hensler’s lecture inspired a handful of colleagues to weigh in on the matter by authoring response articles.

The signing of the Colombian Peace Agreement in 2016 put an end to a civil war that lasted for half a century. However, more than a year later, the primary issues that led to the prolonged conflict persist, as was eloquently detailed in October during a Saltman Center lecture presented by Mary Roldán, a professor of Latin American History at the Graduate Center at The City University of New York.
