The UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law is one of the signature successes of higher education in the state of Nevada. In under 20 years the UNLV Boyd School of Law has become one of the top public law schools in the country, reflected in various national rankings. Not long ago every Nevadan had to leave the state to go to law school, and many left to practice law elsewhere. We now keep top students here who have gone on to transform the bench and bar in Nevada. Our alumni are partners in law firms, large and small; they are judges, legislators, public defenders, and district attorneys. Additionally, our school has long been committed to providing representation to those who cannot afford a lawyer, and in partnership with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada and Nevada Legal Services we have provided free legal education to more than 56,000 Nevadans.
Yet this history of excellence faces new challenges. As law schools everywhere respond to a historic drop in applications, the UNLV Boyd School of Law must stay competitive. Scholarships make the difference in attracting top students to the law school and making it possible for them to attend Boyd. To meet this new challenge, we are announcing the Dean’s Scholarship Initiative to raise $2 million for student scholarships over three years. Scholarships can be the deciding factor for prospective and current students and play an integral role in improving the national reach and reputation of the law school. Now more than ever, your support of scholarships at Boyd will ensure we play a critical role in taking a great public law school and making it even better.
