Roll Up Your Sleeves: From law journal, to clinics, to moot court competitions, Boyd offers many opportunities for gaining practical experience. We encourage you to extend these opportunities beyond campus with an externship in the courts, legislature, or a governmental agency.

Nationally Recognized Programs

Lawyering Process Program

We expand on the concept of “legal writing” by incorporating professionalism and lawyering skills into both semesters of our first-year curriculum. A third, required semester allows students to further develop fundamental skills. Our comprehensive program includes the following:

  • Objective & Persuasive Writing

Thomas & Mack Legal Clinic

In the Clinic, law students gain practical legal experience representing clients under the supervision of full-time law professors. The Clinic offers seven clinics in regular rotation: Appellate, Education Advocacy, Family Justice, Immigration, Small Business and Non-Profit, Juvenile Justice, and Mediation, which operates in conjunction with the Saltman Center for Dispute Resolution.

Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution

The Saltman Center is nationally and internationally renowned for its study of the nature of conflict and alternative dispute resolution. The center hosts a variety of conferences, lectures, workshops, competitions, clinics, and courses. Saltman faculty have coached students to victory in several national competitions. Our areas of expertise include the following:
