Advocates are problem-solvers who weigh all means of resolving disputes and structuring transactions. As litigation is only one way to solve a problem, advocates who are only familiar with litigation are working at a serious deficit. Such attorneys will be in for a real shock when a court orders their case to a settlement conference, mediation or arbitration. Similarly, transnational attorneys need to structure deals that contemplate many possible forms of dispute resolution.
The Saltman Dispute Resolution Society (SDRS) aims to expose Boydians to a broad range of dispute resolution processes. In addition, SDRS provides students access to various problem-solving resources, events, and practicing attorneys and neutrals.
Each SDRS member has a competitive advantage because he or she can solve problems using a broad array of tools (a life skill). Particularly in these tight economic times clients are looking to hire attorneys who can help them resolve their problems creatively and efficiently.
