Mission Statement

Legal writing as a discipline in the legal academy faces challenges in status, perception, and integration. As Legal Writing faculty of color, we are committed to supporting each other in our scholarship and teaching in the legal academy. We resist any notion to otherwise disregard or invalidate our contributions. Instead, we support one another to amplify our voices through scholarship, including legal writing’s substance and practice.

What is W.A.R.?

Writing as Resistance (W.A.R.) provides mentorship and scholarship support for legal writing faculty of color. Each year, the W.A.R. Legal Writing Professors of Color Scholarship Workshop provides opportunities for check-ins, writing retreats, writing workshops, and works-in-progress scholarship presentations.

The workshop has been made possible in previously years from generous sponsors including the University of Denver Strum College of Law, UIC Law, Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, and The John Marshall Law School.
