Curriculum

Degree Programs

A Boyd curriculum begins with the essentials, such as civil procedure, criminal law, contracts, constitutional law, property, torts, and legal writing. In years two and three, the curriculum broadens, offering a rich array of elective courses such as environmental, immigration, real estate, or gaming law. Many of our students also participate in legal clinics, journals, and student organizations.

Concentrations

The Boyd School of Law faculty has approved the following curricular concentrations for students interested in exploring a specific area of law. Students who complete all requirements for a concentration will receive a letter so confirming.

Business and Commercial Law

The William S. Boyd School of Law offers law students currently enrolled at the Law School the opportunity to concentrate their elective studies in business and commercial law. Students who wish to receive formal recognition of the concentration in business and commercial law shall meet the following requirements:

Dispute Resolution

Today’s legal system incorporates many modes of dispute resolution and requires lawyers to have proficiency in litigation and non-litigation methods to resolve client disputes.

Health Law

The UNLV Health Law Program offers law students currently enrolled at the William S. Boyd School of Law the opportunity to concentrate their elective studies in health law.

IP Law Concentration

The UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law offers law students currently enrolled at the Law School the opportunity to concentrate their elective studies in intellectual property law.

Workplace Law Concentration

The Workplace Law Concentration (WLC) is designed to provide students with a rigorous introduction to labor and employment law. Labor and employment law is a area of important and lucrative practice in Las Vegas in the big firms, small plaintiffs' firms, and in businesses on and off the Las Vegas Strip.

Indian Nations Gaming and Governance Concentration

The mission of the Indian Nations Gaming & Governance Program is to provide cutting edge research and training on gaming, regulation, and governance for Indian nations; to prepare Native students to become future leaders; and to educate non-Native students in the legal, political, and cultural context of tribal gaming.
