Report Indicates Problems in Immigration Detention in Henderson

A report compiled by the UNLV Immigration Clinic found indications of significant problems in conditions for immigration detainees held at the Henderson Detention Center. After spending $29 million to expand and renovate its facilities, HDC contracted with ICE to house immigration detainees. Currently, three hundred total beds are available for ICE detainees at HDC. The Clinic interviewed 29 detainees, and found that many of them reported being pressured to sign deportation papers, long waits for medical treatment and difficulties contacting attorneys confidentially.
