Sen. Rosen Highlights Clinic's Defense of Asylum-Seekers in Senate Hearing
The Bernstein Children's Rights Program defends unaccompanied children fleeing violence
Yesterday, in a hearing of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen highlighted the plight of children fleeing gang violence who are represented by the UNLV Immigration Clinic. The Senator made a passionate statement in support of the right to seek asylum, invoking her own family's immigrant heritage.
Through the Edward M. Bernstein & Associates Children's Rights Program, our clinic defends dozens of teenagers and some elementary school-age children who fled horrendous violence in Central America. Sen. Rosen highlighted the plight of teenage girls threatened and pressured to become "girlfriends" for gang members.
