UNLV Immigration Clinic Files Public Comment Opposing Major Rule Restricting Asylum

Thursday, July 16, 2020

Yesterday the UNLV Immigration Clinic filed a public comment condemning a Trump Administration proposal to restrict asylum for persecuted people as "contrary to the principles of asylum and refugee protection that the United States once committed itself to upholding."

As National Public Radio summarized,  "The sweeping restrictions would make it easier for immigration judges to reject asylum requests out of hand." They would have especially dire impact of women fleeing domestic violence, victims of criminal gangs, and LGBTQ people fleeing homophobic and transphobic attacks, among others.
