Professor Benjamin Levin studies criminal law and its collateral consequences. His current research examines the criminal justice reform movement and its relationship to other movements for social and economic change. His scholarship has appeared or is forthcoming in journals including the Michigan Law Review, the Boston College Law Review , the Fordham Law Review, and the Harvard Law Review Forum. His writing for general audiences has appeared in OnLabor,Salon, and Time

At Colorado Law, he teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure: Adjudicative Process, and Advanced Criminal Justice. In 2018, he received the Excellence in Teaching Award and the Outstanding New Faculty Member Award. 

Prior to joining the Colorado Law faculty, Professor Levin served as a Climenko Fellow and Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School. At Harvard, he designed and taught an upper-level elective, Overcriminalization and the Limits of Criminal Law, in addition to teaching First-Year Legal Research and Writing. In 2016, he was an inaugural recipient of the Harvard Law School Student Government Teaching and Advising Award, as nominated and voted on by the student body. 

Before entering academia, Professor Levin worked at the civil rights firm of Neufeld Scheck and Brustin, LLP, where he focused on cases involving police and prosecutorial misconduct. He also clerked for Judge Lawrence E. Kahn of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and Judge Leonard I. Garth of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. 

He earned his B.A., with distinction, from Yale University and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he received the Irving Oberman Memorial Award for law and social change and served as an Executive Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review
