Overview
This CLE focuses on the intersection of the federal Bankruptcy Code and the Medicare Act, an area of law which has proven to be difficult for judges, lawyers and healthcare industry participants alike. The discussion will include unique issues that arise in the restructuring of a healthcare business, focusing on issues that arise vis-à-vis federal and state governments, as well as with regard to not-for-profit entities.

Presenter
Mr. Samuel R. Maizel, a partner in the Los Angeles office of Dentons Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy group. His practice includes bankruptcy matters and financial restructuring in-and out-of-court in all industries, but he leads the firm's healthcare industry restructuring efforts nationwide. Mr. Maizel has served as lead bankruptcy counsel to debtors in Chapter 11 cases, as an examiner appointed pursuant to the request of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and as lead counsel to various official bankruptcy committees and to individual creditors. Mr. Maizel has also been involved in Chapter 9 cases involving local hospital districts and other governmental units.
