The goal of this session will be to provide tools that will enable greater understanding and meaningful dialogue. The CLE will explore "difficult conversations" -- or those conversations that feel uncomfortable or have a negative association. To give participants insights into what is happening internally when they encounter a difficult conversation, presenters will synthesize current neuroscience research about what happens in the body when people are under stress. From there, presenters will discuss those "difficult conversations" that lawyers regularly encounter -- conversations with clients and with other lawyers -- and identify specific tools and techniques to help lawyers prepare for difficult conversations and improve their communications.
Speakers: Margaret Crowley, Crowley Mediation and Lydia Nussbaum, Professor of Law at UNLV Boyd School of Law
