Frank Rudy Cooper Awarded AALS Minority Section's C. Clyde Ferguson Award
This month, Professor Frank Rudy Cooper, Director of the Program on Race, Gender, and Policing, was awarded the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Minority Section's C. Clyde Ferguson, Jr. Award. Of this honor, the AALS qualifies that it may be granted to an outstanding law teacher who has achieved excellence in the areas of public service, teaching, and scholarship. "The Award is particularly aimed at law teachers who, have provided support, encouragement, and mentoring to colleagues, students, and aspiring legal educators.
When asked about this esteemed designation, Professor Cooper said, "The Ferguson Award is an incredible honor. The Minority Section is the AALS's second largest, consisting of hundreds of professors. It also considers a multiplicity of factors, including scholarly contributions. I am humbled and inspired to receive this award."
Professor Cooper remarked that this award will be valuable to his scholarship because "It raises my profile, thus increasing the likelihood my work will be read." He commented that it is especially valuable for the Program on Race, Gender, and Policing as he has leveraged the opportunity to promote the upcoming conference on Black Legal Futurism taking place in April. He stated, "This will be an interesting set of conversations that will promote our faculty, thus enhancing the value of a Boyd degree."
