Alumnus Ryan McInerney Named 2011-12 Capital Fellow

Boyd alumnus Ryan McInerney '11 has been named a Capital Fellow for 2011-12.

McInerney will be one of the 10 named to the Judicial Administration Fellowship portion of the program.

“I am the Judicial Administration Fellow for the Superior Court of California, County of Orange, which is comprised of 117 judges, 23 commissioners and over 1600 staff, serving a community of over 3,000,000,” McInerney said. “In my position, I work directly under my mentors, the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer, on policy and legal projects involving juvenile confidentiality, criminal realignment, local court rule revision and early dispute resolution programs.”

The Capital Fellowships are run through Sacramento State and funded through the Cal State University system. They are considered one of the 10 best internships in the country, according to Vault.com’s Guide to Internships.

Judicial Administration is one of four programs included in the Capital Fellowships, and at 10 annual recipients, is the most exclusive.

“Over 1,400 people apply each year for the 64 fellowships,” McInerney said. “Out of these applicants, the Judicial Fellowship hiring committee selects 50 people for a 30-minute panel interview. Ten applicants are selected as Judicial Fellows.”

McInerney added that he was excited about the opportunity to be involved with projects that will affect so many people.

“Although I plan to practice law in the short-term, I hope to ultimately pursue a career in which I can utilize the knowledge and skills I learned in law school and the fellowship to make policy that has a positive impact on my community,” he said.
