La Voz Receives HNBA Law Student Organization of the Year Award

La Voz, the Hispanic Law Students Association at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law is winner of the 2008 Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Law Student Organization of the Year. HNBA awarded La Voz in recognition for its work in support of Latino law students and the Latino community. The award was presented at the 2008 HNBA Annual Convention on September 6 in Hollywood, California.

“Our continuing goal, as members of La Voz, is to serve as examples of hard work and determination for those who may think that a law degree is out of reach for Hispanics and to change the minds of those who think the legal profession is unwilling to give back to the local community,” said Leslie Niño Fidance, treasurer and former president of the group.

Among the many community service activities that La Voz coordinated and participated in this past year are the Thrills and Chills Halloween Carnival at Ullom Elementary School, the Upward Bound Mock Trial, the Family Leadership Institute tours and talks, and La Voz’s

“La Voz,” or the voice, is the Hispanic Law Students Association at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law. Founded in 2006, La Voz now has over 20 active members. The organization serves to empower, promote, and enhance the admission of Latino law students at Boyd, as well as other underrepresented students in higher education.
