Professor Nancy Rapoport Receives Public Service Counsel Award

Nancy Rapoport, the Gordon Silver Professor at the UNLV Boyd School of Law, took home the Public Service Counsel Award at the 2008 Media & Entertainment Counsel of the Year Awards.

"The law school is extremely proud of Professor Rapoport," said John Valery White, dean of the Boyd School of Law. "Her receipt of the Public Service Counsel Award is a great honor for her and for the law school. We aspire for our faculty members to be both important scholars and influential public intellectuals. Professor Rapoport has succeeded in this difficult, dual task as this award amply demonstrates."



"I am very appreciative of the award and very grateful that some of my work allows me to learn from cutting-edge lawyers in the media & entertainment fields," said Rapoport when asked about receiving the award.



The Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel (AMEC) created the awards to recognize those members who have achieved the highest levels of successes in their areas of expertise and to honor the top media and entertainment counsel as selected by their peers. Nominees are selected to receive awards in various categories such as Sports Counsel, Labor Counsel and Excellence in Branded Entertainment. AMEC held this year's awards on Jan. 9 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif.



The criteria for nomination in the Public Service Counsel category requires the nominee to be employed by a governmental, public, quasi-public, public-private partnership or non-profit organization who has demonstrated a high level of achievement in the area of entertainment, media, and/or communication.
