What brought you from your native Illinois to Nevada?
As much as I’ll miss the Prairie State, there’s a charming beauty in the West that attracts a nature nut like myself. After spending a couple summers in Reno, I grew fond of the unique character of Nevada and its expanding opportunities, Boyd being an excellent example. Plus, it was in the 20’s when I left Illinois last week and 70 when I returned to Vegas. Do I need to say much more?
How are you enjoying serving as a first-year rep on the Student Bar Association?
It’s been a privilege to serve on SBA, which has provided me the opportunity to work with students and faculty in a special capacity. I’ve also enjoyed learning about the operations of SBA and helping address concerns facing the class. This semester I hope to build off this to better assist my colleagues to finish our first year strong.
What's the best piece of advice anyone ever gave you?
Although he didn’t get to tell me himself, I believe Abraham Lincoln was speaking to all of us when he said, “You can’t escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” The future can often seem daunting but taking it one day at a time helps me cope with the stress and better focus on what’s important in the moment.
What are you most looking forward to doing when the pandemic is behind us?
Live music and comedy! I’ve had an itch to go to a jazz bar once things settle, and I’m not even a big fan of jazz. Although most of all I look forward to meeting my classmates in a personal setting which the online platform can’t provide. I imagine it’ll be like meeting celebrities who I’ve only seen on the big screen!
