How has drumming shaped your outlook on life?
While I was drumming for Utah's drum corps, one instructor would always say, "Don't make the same mistake twice." I try to apply that saying to everyday life. I know I'm going to make mistakes, but if I never make the same one twice, I'll probably be a pretty good person and lawyer in no time soon. In other words, drumming gave me a positive outlook on making mistakes.
Is there a drummer you idolize?
Yes! Benny Greb, Travis Barker, and Neil Peart can lay some filthy beats (that's a good thing).
Let's hear your top three experiences while a student at Boyd.
This is so hard. My time as a student at Boyd has been perfect.
#3 - During 1L, my section would sometimes generate a random word, and someone would try to work it into class discussion. In Property class with Professor Chang one day, the word was "jellyfish" and we were discussing easements. My name got called, so I asked if something like access to a "jellyfish farm" was sufficient to create an easement by necessity. Of course, Professor Chang saw through this and said, "Is the word of the day 'jellyfish'?" The whole class got a good laugh at me, and I still laugh when I think about that.
#2 - All my great study groups with great and priceless friends! We complained at the time, but those memories are priceless now.
#1 - Number one definitely goes to being elected by my classmates to the SBA board for my 1L and 2L years. It was a great honor!
With the end of the pandemic in sight, what are you most looking forward to being able to do again?
My first answer would be going back to class, but I'm most looking forward to being a room with colleagues and working and learning in the presence of others again.
