Tell us about your day job with UNLV.

As a compensation analyst, I evaluate and analyze market data to determine salary placements for academic faculty at UNLV. It involves making recommendations on salary increase requests and job retention offers for current employees. My role is to help ensure that our university is competitively paying our faculty compared to other universities while maintaining parity with their internal peers. I also work on reviews for the Office of Compliance on assessments regarding potential pay discrimination practices and perceived inequity based on a protected class. Additionally, I provide consultation and strategy to campus managers in standardized job design and establishing appropriate career ladders.

What's your #1 tip for our entering part-time evening students in terms of balancing school, work, and all else?

Always keep your long-term goal in mind when struggling to balance your priorities. The prize waiting at the end is what helps me persevere when school and work demands get overwhelming. It keeps me motivated, knowing that I'm investing in my future legal career while continuing to grow as an HR administrator.

Who is someone after whom you try to model yourself professionally?

It's a tie between my mom and my dad, two devoted and humble working-class people. They taught me that, as I progress through my professional career, it is important to leave each job better than how I entered it.

The question for all... what are you most looking forward to doing when life returns to something resembling what it once was?

I look forward to going to music festivals and sporting events with all my friends again!
