Zahava Lieberman
As president of the Jewish Law Student Association, what are your goals for the group this year?
I would like to create a space on campus devoted to furthering Judaism and a safe space for religious observance. JLSA is open to all and is committed to spreading awareness of issues that affect Jewish law students. This year, we would like to start a network of Jewish professionals and attorneys in the community to which our members can connect.
Same question for the Intellectual Property Law Society, of which you also are president this year.
IP Law is an up and coming field and one that is constantly changing. IPLS should be a space on campus for those interested in patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. IP Law is not only meant for those with a science background. The IP Law Section of the Nevada Bar will be hosting a conference later this fall in which students are encouraged to participate. IPLS will help run the conference and its programming. As with JLSA, we would also like to start a network of professionals in the community to which students can connect.
Which Boyd faculty member has really helped you grow your thinking?
That is a really difficult question. I think all Boyd faculty members have helped me grow my thinking in some way. I took Professor Marketa Trimble's International IP class during my first year. The class was incredibly challenging because I had no prior IP experience and no prior international law experience. Reading and analyzing decisions from different courts was really interesting. The class really helped me see how law is practiced and developed in foreign countries. Professor John White and Professor Ian Bartrum also challenged me to always back up my conclusions.
The question of the moment... what are you most looking forward to doing when life gets back to something like normal?
All I want to do is go to a concert. Las Vegas is just not the same without them
