Visiting Professor Linda Edwards Receives Thomas F. Blackwell Award
Linda Edwards, a Visiting Professor of Law at the Boyd School of Law at UNLV, received the Thomas F. Blackwell Memorial Award from the Legal Writing Institute (LWI) and the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD). The award was presented to Professor Edwards at the annual meeting of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) on Jan. 9 in San Diego, Calif.
The award, which is sponsored by the Legal Writing Institute (LWI) and the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD), is named after the late Professor Thomas F. Blackwell, who was killed by a disturbed law student in Januarry 2002. Professor Blackwell taught legal writing and was an active member of ALWD, serving as its webmaster and in the LWI. The award includes both money and a tangible symbol—a desk lamp, representing both the light Professor Blackwell shed on his students and colleagues and his penchant for light bulb jokes.
