The Saltman Center hosts the inaugural West Coast Dispute Resolution Conversation on December 7-8, bringing together esteemed academics from around the region who specialize in the field. The discussion will primarily focus on ADR-related challenges present in both academia and the broader legal community, and how those challenges can be overcome.

With more and more students expressing an interest in conflict resolution, the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law unveiled the Dispute Resolution Concentration during the 2017-18 academic year. The concentration gives students the opportunity to thoroughly explore the main elements of alternative dispute resolution—negotiation, arbitration, and mediation—as the legal field continues to move away from litigation as the main tactic for settling disputes.

One Boyd student who was instantly attracted to the new Dispute Resolution Concentration was Robin Gonzales. Growing up in the conflict-ridden Southern Philippines, Gonzales has long had a deep fascination and appreciation for ADR, and the 3L shares his unique story in this profile.

Ever receive a parking citation you don’t believe you deserved? It happens all the time on UNLV’s campus, which is why the university’s Parking Services department joined forces with the Saltman Center to create the Parking Arbitration Program. Here UNLV Law students serve as trained arbiters, rendering decisions after hearing appeals from those who believe they were wrongly ticketed.
