Professor Chelsea Baldwin joined the Academic Success Program at Boyd in May, 2017.  Professor Baldwin is licensed to practice law in both Oklahoma and Texas. Her law practice experience includes basic family law, guardianship, SSDI, and §1983 litigation. In addition to law practice and academic success experience, Professor Baldwin has training as a mental health professional eligible to seek licensure to work as a therapist.

Professor Baldwin received her B.A. from Southwestern University in Communication Studies, her J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law.  While helping law students meet their potential through the Academic Success program at OCU, Professor Baldwin went back to school and obtained a Master’s of Education with honors in Applied Behavioral Studies with a Certificate in Professional Counseling.

While working in Academic Success, Professor Baldwin has presented to other Academic Success Professionals at numerous conferences on varied subjects including "Intervention for At-risk Students" and "Teaching Note-Taking to Students," among others. Serving as both a private attorney and in law school administration, Professor Baldwin is well versed in many of the challenges that await Boyd students in the practice of law.

Joan Howarth served as dean of the Michigan State University Law College from 2008-2016. Prior to her deanship, she was a professor here at the Boyd School of Law since 2001. She was named William S. Boyd Professor of Law in 2003 and was instrumental in building the law school, having served for four years as associate dean and helped to establish Boyd's early and strong national reputation.

She began her career as a law professor in 1989 after stints with California's Office of the State Public Defender and the ACLU Foundation of Southern California. She has been a faculty member at the Golden Gate University School of Law and a visiting professor of law at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, UC Hastings College of Law, and UC Davis School of Law.

Most recently she is teaching courses on Torts and Advanced Torts. Her scholarship focuses on attorney licensing; legal education; LGBT legal history; and capital punishment, especially as related to gender and sexuality.

She is a leader in legal education through work with the Association of American Law Schools, the American Bar Association, and the Society of American Law Teachers.

Please join us as Boyd's own Chelsea Baldwin and Joan Howarth present their Faculty Enrichment lecture on September 27, 2018.
