During his tenure as a prosecutor, Darden was the Assistant Head Deputy Attorney of the Special Investigations Division which investigated and prosecuted cases involving corruption by public officials and police officer involved shootings.

Darden left the District Attorney Office after the O.J. Simpson case, and joined the faculty at California State University, Los Angeles, where he taught criminal law. That same year, he was appointed Associate Professor of Law at Southwestern University School of Law. Darden taught and specialized in criminal law, criminal procedure and trial advocacy. During that time, Darden also did humanitarian work for the families of homicide victims and domestic abuse victims.

He left the law school in 2000 and started his own firm, Darden & Associates, Inc., specializing in criminal law defense and civil litigation, where he worked on white collar, narcotics, marijuana, homicides and criminal street gang cases.

Darden is a frequent guest and commentator on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Network and Court TV. He has made guest appearances on various television shows and in movies.
