Women in the Law: Going First and Going Forward: Nevada

Presented by The Ninth Judicial Circuit Historical Society

Where have we been and where are we now? Join our distinguished panel as they discuss what it was like to be the first woman in a particular role in the law. Our panelists also will provide us their insights into how things have (or have not) changed.

Panelists:

Hon. Johnnie B. Rawlinson

Judge Rawlinson is the first female Nevada judge to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She was also the first female judge to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.

Hon. Gloria Navarro

Judge Navarro is the Chief Judge of the District Court for the District of Nevada

Franny Forsman

After becoming the first female shareholder of a storied Nevada law firm, Franny Forsman was the first woman appointed as the Federal Public Defender for Nevada, a position she held for 22 years, after which she received a Masters in Creative Writing, and is finishing a novel.

Becky Harris

Ms. Harris is the first woman chair of the Nevada Gaming Control Board and a former state senator.

Moderator:

Prof. Anne Traum: Boyd School of Law and former trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice and Assistant Federal Public Defender.
