Program Description:
This panel discussion will reflect on the 2023 session of the Nevada State Legislature and review the measures that will have a statewide impact. The discussion will be led by legislators and lobbyists who were directly involved in the legislative process.
Presenters’ Bios:
Senator Rochelle Nguyen represents Senate District 3 in Clark County. She is a graduate of the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law. Prior to serving in the Nevada State Senate, Senator Nguyen served in the Nevada Assembly from 2019-2023. She currently runs her own law firm specializing in criminal defense and previously worked in the Clark County Public Defender’s Office. She also clerked for Judge Jack Lehman and District Court Judge Jackie Glass. She has lived in Nevada for over 20 years.
Assemblyman Toby Yurek represents Assembly District 19 in Clark County. He is a graduate of the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law and was first elected to the Nevada State Assembly in 2022. Assemblyman Yurek is the managing partner of GGRM Law Firm and serves as a Judge Pro Tempore in Henderson Municipal Court. He is a retired police lieutenant with the City of Henderson Police Department and has lived in the Las Vegas Valley since 1988.
Connor Cain is a Vice President at Carrara Nevada and serves as a lobbyist at the state and local levels. He is a graduate of the George Mason University School of Law and was a law clerk for the United States Senate Committee on Finance and the National Labor Relations Board. Prior to joining Carrara Nevada, Connor worked for the McMullen Strategic Group and has also worked on political campaigns including former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s Senate campaign and former Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani’s campaign for Mayor of Las Vegas. Connor teaches Legislative Policy as an adjunct professor at the William S. Boyd School of Law.
Jonathan Norman is the Advocacy, Outreach and Policy Director for the Nevada Coalition of Legal Service Providers, representing the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Legal Services, Northern Nevada Legal Aid, the Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans and the Southern Nevada Senior Law Program. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Jonathan came to Nevada in 2017 to work with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada’s Children Attorneys Project and was later promoted to Team Chief of the Education Advocacy Project.
