In Part 3 of our four-part Judgment & Decision-Making mini-series we take our decision-making vehicle (the human brain) for a spin to see how it handles on the road, and we explore how dealing with other drivers impacts choice-making. During this session, we hone-in the dynamic exchange between the self and the social world to explore how social operation influences, impedes, and/or impairs our judgment and choice-making. We’ll pick-up some useful tips for making good decisions as individuals operating in social groups. We also learn strategies for promoting good collective decision-making.

Dr. Sedlovskaya teaches courses on the self and identity as a lecturer with the Harvard Extension School. She also serves as the Assistant Director for the Harvard Business School’s C. Roland Christensen Center for Teaching and Learning, a position she has occupied for four years, after her five-year tenure as a senior researcher. As a doctoral student, Dr. Sedlovskaya won a graduate research fellowship from the National Science Foundation and a research grant from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues supporting her investigation of diversity and social stigma within organizations. Her dissertation explored social stigma and concealable identities. In subsequent research, she examined ingroup/outgroup bias, bias-mitigating interventions, the self and identity, and social stigma in the workplace. Through her nine-year affiliation with the Christensen Center (five as a senior researcher and four as the Assistant Director), Dr. Sedlovskaya and her colleagues have provided leadership and expertise in case method teaching and participant-centered learning to support faculty development at institutions throughout the United States and across the globe.
