Description
Professor Shih-Chun "Steven" Chien delivered an invited lecture at National Chengchi University College of Law in Taiwan on May 28, 2026, titled "Ethical Challenges in Citizen Judge Trials: A Comparative Perspective from U.S. Criminal Trials."

Speaking as part of a legal ethics lecture series, Professor Chien examined the new ethical dilemmas facing judges under Taiwan's recently adopted citizen judge system—in which lay citizens decide serious criminal cases alongside professional judges—using the American jury trial as a comparative lens. The talk drew on his expertise in criminal law, evidence, and legal ethics, as well as his ongoing research on Taiwan's criminal justice reforms, and was attended by law students and faculty.
