Bio:

Carla Bywaters is a Research Librarian and Assistant Professor in the Wiener-Rogers Law Library at the William S. Boyd School of Law. She provides research assistance to law faculty and students and assists library patrons with legal reference services. She is currently the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Westpac Diversity and Inclusion Chair and became an AALL George A. Strait Scholar in 2021. 

Prior to joining Boyd, Professor Bywaters practiced as a licensed court reporter for over 20 years. She acquired her Master of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University’s iSchool in 2020. Carla then secured her Juris Doctor as a Part-Time Evening student from the William S. Boyd School of Law in 2024. She worked as a Research Assistant in the law library for a majority of her time there. 

Carla was further privileged to be a J. Paul Lomio Fellow in the Robert Crown Law Library at Stanford Law School in the summer of 2022. She also had the immense honor of working with the Law Library of Congress both as a Remote Metadata Intern and a Creative Digital Publications Intern from 2023-2024. She can be found reading fiction for book clubs during her free time, which goes with the territory.
