Cassie Hazelip is an Associate Professor of Law at the William S. Boyd School of Law. Her research and teaching interests span family law, disability law, clinical pedagogy, evidence, professional responsibility, and civil rights.

Professor Hazelip joins Boyd Law from Yale Law School, where she served as a Clinical Lecturer in Law, Clinical Teaching Fellow, and Associate Research Scholar. At Yale, she co-taught the Mental Health Justice Clinic seminar, building students' lawyering skills through a disability justice framework. She also oversaw clinic operations, supervised litigation and appeals, and spearheaded initiatives such as cultivating a family preservation medical-legal partnership with Yale New Haven Hospital and co-developing trauma-informed lawyering trainings.

Prior to her time in academia, Professor Hazelip spent five years as a public defender in New York City with the Family Defense Practice at The Bronx Defenders, serving as a Staff Attorney and later as a Custody Supervisor. In these roles, she represented parents accused of abuse and neglect by child welfare services and supervised dozens of cases intersecting custody, kinship guardianship, and orders of protection. Her extensive advocacy background also includes representing incarcerated individuals in parole appeals and working with street outreach operations to connect chronically homeless individuals with housing and public benefits.

She earned her J.D. from the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law, where she was a Graduate Fellow and won first place in the CUNY Moot Court Competition. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and International Studies (with Distinction) from the University of Michigan. She is legally proficient in Spanish and is a Peace Corps alumna, having served as a community health volunteer in Zambia.
