Max Gakh - Excellence in Public Health
During the 2017-2018 academic year, Professor Max Gakh received the Early Career Award for Excellence in Public Health Law from the American Public Health Association’s Law Section as well as the Excellence in Research award from the UNLV School of Community Health Sciences. He was also inducted as a faculty member into the Delta Omega Public Health Honors Society, Delta Theta Chapter.
The public health law and policy research he has conducted with colleagues has resulted in five peer-reviewed publications this academic year, ranging from mandatory disclosure laws to the use of gubernatorial executive orders to health impact assessments to public health preparedness. In Fall 2017, Prof. Gakh taught Public Health Law to law and public health graduate students. In his Spring 2018 service-learning Public Health Policy course, law and public health graduate students examined which policy interventions are most appropriate to address disparities around obesity in Clark County. They presented their findings and made recommendations to the local health department.
