The William S. Boyd School of Law is proud to celebrate a historic milestone in community engagement and legal advocacy. This spring, in a powerful partnership with the Las Vegas National Bar Association (LVNBA) and Snell & Wilmer, Boyd Law helped guide four standout students from Canyon Springs High School to the national stage of the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project.

The journey began in January, as LVNBA President Monique Jammer, Boyd Law Professor Maryam Ahranjani, and Boyd student Farwa Husain dedicated countless hours to coaching Maryjo Tinker, Isabella Corral, Jade Jow, and Lonnie Fletcher III. The students prepared to argue a complex Fourth Amendment issue regarding the warrantless search of a student’s cell phone — a case they first presented during a local competition on February 17 before a distinguished panel of judges, including Professor Frank Rudy Cooper and alumnus Dallas Anselmo.

Beyond the courtroom, Boyd Law supported the students’ professional growth. Assistant Dean Nikki Harris and the Career Development Office opened the school’s professional Career Closet, ensuring each competitor felt confident and prepared in professional attire.

On March 7, the team traveled to Washington, D.C., to compete at American University Washington College of Law, thanks to the generous support of Snell & Wilmer. For all four students, it was their first trip to the nation’s capital and they made it count. Out of 44 competitors nationwide, both Maryjo Tinker and Lonnie Fletcher reached the Top 12. Lonnie Fletcher further distinguished himself by advancing to the Final Four and earning first place as Best Respondent.

This achievement was made possible by the vision of Ray English (Snell & Wilmer) and the tireless support of Dr. Mark Wright (Canyon Springs High School). Building on this momentum, we are thrilled to announce that Boyd Law will officially partner with the LVNBA to establish a permanent Marshall-Brennan chapter in the 2026-2027 school year.
