Boyd Alumna Appointed General Counsel To Governor Gibbons

After serving three years as general counsel for the Nevada Commission on Ethics, Adriana Guzmán Fralick '03 recently was appointed general counsel for the governor's office by Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons. The general counsel is a senior staff position within the Office of the Governor.

At the Boyd School of Law, Fralick served as parliamentarian for the Minority Law Students Association and as vice-president of the Organization of Women Law Students.

"Boyd gave me the tools I need for this position. The faculty there were very supportive. Boyd has a model open door environment that not only allows but encourages students to meet with their professors outside of the classroom," said Fralick.

"Striking a balance between the three branches of government is my greatest challenge to date," she said, "It is imperative that the branches of government work together to achieve the people’s work in these difficult economic times. However, this blending of power can sometimes offend fundamental separation of powers principles.”

Fralick, who is fluent in English and Spanish, has provided free legal services for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in Communication Studies in 1998 from the University of Nevada at Reno.
