Boyd Alumnus Wins 2007 Shannon Bybee Scholarship Award

Boyd alumnus Charles C. Rainey (Class of 2007) is a recipient of the 2007 IAGA Shannon Bybee Scholarship Award and won one of the two $2,500 awards for his research paper on gaming law education.

About the 2007 IAGA Shannon Bybee Scholarship Awards:

The IAGA Shannon Bybee Scholarship Awards Committee evaluated six student submissions for the 2007 scholarship awards, noting the quality of the submissions and the difficult choices presented in having to select two for the Shannon Bybee scholarships. The Committee members evaluated each submission under the following criteria: (i) quality of presentation; (ii) quality of footnoting; (iii) depth of research; (iv) novelty or importance of subject matter; (v) value to gaming law practitioners or gaming control officials; and (vi) value to the study of gaming law.

It was the unanimous decision of the Committee that the 2007 IAGA Shannon Bybee Scholarship Award recipients are:

1. Chris Rauch, Student, University of North Dakota School of Law, for the submission entitled, "The Problem with Good Faith: The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, a Decade after Seminole".

2. Charles C. Rainey, Alumnus, William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for the submission entitled, "Gaming Law in Legal Education: Gaming Law's Unexplored Opportunities in America's Law Schools".
