Boyd School of Law VITA Program Honored with ABA Law Student Division National Award

The UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law’s VITA program was one of two programs nationally to receive a Rookie Site Honorable Mention award in early August from the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Law Student Division.

The VITA program, sponsored by the Boyd Financial Law Society, is a student-run volunteer program where 39 Boyd students this year were trained and certified in income tax assistance, according to Boyd student and SBA Vice President Rajan Dhungana. The students volunteered hundreds of hours, helping screen at least 300 people.

The program offered free tax services to anyone with an annual income less than $50,000.

Dhungana accepted the award alongside SBA President Rob Telles, ABA Representative Izaac Rowe, and 14th Circuit ABA Governor Laura Tucker.

The exact number of people assisted through the VITA program will not be known until final tax return numbers are received from the IRS.
