Boyd Students Place Third in Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition

Third-year student Geneva Lemon and second-year student Kimberly Loges, coached by Professor Jean Whitney, competed against six teams to place third in the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition.

Loges and Lemon met through the National Black Law Students Association where they are both members. They teamed up for the competition and began preparing for it in October of 2009.

The team had to write a brief for either the plaintiff or the defense; and at the competition, they had to argue for both sides. Loges and Lemon competed three times and received the third highest score, moving them to the semifinals. They also received Best Respondent Brief.

The competition was held February 4-6 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco, Calif.

The Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition, held annually by the National Black Law Students Association, focuses primarily on public law topics of particular relevance to students of color.
