Boyd Students Win Diversity Scholarship
The State Bar of Nevada Diversity Committee recently announced its 2011 Diversity Scholarship winners at the Clark County Bar Association luncheon on Thursday, May 12.
After careful consideration of 23 well-written and deserving applications, the committee presented Boyd School of Law students Rick Benito and Colin Seale each with a $500 scholarship.
"I'd really like to thank the Nevada State Bar for this scholarship and their commitment to promoting diversity within the attorney ranks," said Benito, who, after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in Computer Science spent the next eight years as an F/A-18 pilot in the Marine Corps before attending Boyd.
The mission of the committee is "to increase diversity within the membership and leadership of the State Bar of Nevada and the profession, to support and encourage opportunities for current and aspiring attorneys from underrepresented groups, and to raise awareness of the benefits of diversity."
"Winning the State Bar Diversity Scholarship means a lot to me, but not just because of the financial support it provides me as a middle school math teacher. It inspires me to know diversity matters to our bar this much, so I feel compelled to continue my efforts to increase diversity within our ranks," said Seale, Vice President of Black Law Students Association on campus and leader of an Introduction to Law program at the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy.
Both impressive students will be entering into their third year at Boyd this fall.
