Boyd Students Win Essay Contest

Second-year law student Kimberly E. Loges submitted the winning essay for the inaugural Nevada Professionalism Summit Essay Contest. The title of her winning entry is "Danger Ahead: Use Caution When Traversing Social Media Sites."

First-year law student Christian Balducci took second place in the contest for his essay, “Professionalism in Practice: Defending Codefendants from the Same Domestic Violence Altercation.”

Both students were presented with awards at the Clark County Bar Association luncheon on Jan. 21. Loges received a $750 prize, and Balducci received a $500 prize. Additionally, the winning essay was published in the ... issue of Nevada Lawyer.

Last year, Loges also won an award from the Anti-Defamation League’s Nevada Regional Office for her winning essay submitted in conjunction with The Four Jewish Trials that Changed History lecture series sponsored by the ADL.

The Nevada Professionalism Summit is an annual event organized by the Professionalism Summit Committee under the direction of Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta. It is sponsored and supported by the State Bar of Nevada, the Clark County Bar Association, the Washoe County Bar Association, the Nevada Justice Association, and lawyers and law firms throughout the state.

Entry in the essay contest is limited to students at the Boyd Law School. Next year's contest will be announced at the end of the 2009-2010 school year.
