Vanderlaan & Reynolds place in Milani Disability Law Writing Competition

Congratulations to 2Ls Josette Vanderlaan and Lindsay Reynolds, who won second and third place in the national Adam A. Milani Disability Law Writing Competition. Their papers were selected by a panel of judges from around the country and were based on briefs they prepared in Prof. Kristin Gerdy Kyle’s Lawyering Process 2 class last spring semester.

"Josette and Lindsay are both talented writers and advocates, and their briefs representing different sides of a Title VII employment discrimination case were both excellent,” said Professor Gerdy Kyle. “I encouraged them both to enter the Milani Competition and am thrilled that they have been recognized for their hard work and talent."

The Adam A. Milani Disability Law Writing Competition is a national disability law writing competition sponsored by the Mercer University School of Law and the ABA Commission on Mental and Physical Disability Law. Submissions can be on any of the following topics: Disability law; The Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; Age Discrimination in Employment Act; Family and Medical Leave Act; or a state statute or municipal ordinance prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The competition honors the work of the late Professor Adam Milani, a passionate advocate for disability rights, an accomplished legal scholar, and a beloved faculty member at the Law School. Adam was a long-time legal writing professor and a dear friend and colleague to the legal writing community.
