Intellectual Property Attorney to Speak about Legal Experiences

T. Rao Coca, vice president of intellectual property at International Game Technology, will discuss his professional legal experiences in the Asia Pacific region with Professor Marketa Trimble’s International Intellectual Property class at the William S. Boyd School of Law on April 25.Rao Coca

Coca will focus on his position working as assistant general counsel responsible for intellectual property for IBM Corporate Asia Pacific Headquarters, where he dealt with protection, enforcement, education and legislation of international property in several countries, including China, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia. Coca also will discuss efforts he spearheaded with other U.S. companies, U.S. trade representatives and U.S. embassies.

For 23 years, while employed by IBM, Coca held several executive and managerial positions worldwide. He worked as senior director of litigation and licensing for NVIDIA Corp. before joining IGT. Coca has published more than 30 papers on both physics and intellectual property law and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Currently, he serves on the editorial board of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal and the LES Advisory Board.
