International Center for Gaming Regulation

Signing Ceremony
On June 11, 2015, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed an appropriations bill committing an annual allocation of $500,000 to UNLV’s new International Center for Gaming Regulation.

The Center will provide educational programs as well as original research focused on the study of gaming regulation. The Center is a partnership between the International Gaming Institute (IGI) at the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration and the William S. Boyd School of Law. The Center will provide cutting-edge research and publications on best practices in gaming regulation around the world.

The new Center would not have been possible without the leadership of Senator Mark Lipparelli and Senator Greg Brower and the vision of Professor Bo Bernhard, executive director of IGI; Anthony Cabot, a partner at Lewis Roca Rothgerber and a leading expert in gaming law and policy; and Professor Ngai Pindell, director of gaming programs at the Boyd School of Law.

With the expansion of gaming across the globe, the need for a strong, experienced voice in the area of gaming regulation has become more and more critical. UNLV’s new International Center for Gaming Regulation is now positioned to be the academic leader in the field. The global gaming industry has already stepped up in support, pledging more than $1 million in donations to launch this important project.

“Governor Sandoval has given us a charge to serve as the global intellectual capital of gaming. This Center answers that call, and the state’s financial commitment is a resounding endorsement of our efforts,” said Bernhard.

Dean Daniel W. Hamilton at the Boyd School of Law added, “We are grateful to Governor Sandoval and the Legislature for their investment in this world-class research center. Together, the IGI and the law school will build on the extraordinary gaming expertise inside this university, city and state.
