It's quite a trek from your native Rhode Island to Nevada. Why did you make it?
I came to Las Vegas for economic opportunities and a change of scenery. The weather in New England is notoriously rough and years later I am still thankful to be living in such a beautiful desert. As for economic opportunities, I cannot imagine having lived the interesting life or experiencing the crazy career I have if I stayed in "The Ocean State."
Judge Jones is a District Court Judge in Department 10 of the Eighth Judicial District Court, Las Vegas. On December 1, she will be honored with Boyd's Volunteer Leadership Award, which honors a UNLV Law graduate whose extraordinary volunteer efforts have encouraged others to support the law school through time, service, and philanthropy.
As I reviewed the list of names on the Nevada ballot this past week, I counted 16 members of Boyd Nation running in races at the executive, judicial, legislative, and local level across the Silver State. One of my favorite statistics is that one in four active members of the Nevada Bar are graduates of UNLV Law, and this recent midterm further highlights the impact the law school continues to have in our state.
