What drew you to family law and what do you like most about that area of law?
I always knew I wanted to work with children and/or families, so I was immediately drawn to family law. I did not know then how complex family law matters can be. Working at Naimi Cerceo, I have learned to engage experts to value businesses, perform forensic accounting, and evaluate parents and/or children for psychological issues in divorce and/or custody matters. There is never a dull day in this field — I feel like I am always learning.
What is your elevator pitch for a recent UNLV Law graduate?
Join the board for UNLV Boyd School of Law Chapter Alumni Chapter! It is a fun board; full of networking and friendship opportunities! More than that, we are making great strides for the future of the law school. Last year we raised over $22,000 through our annual golf tournament. From this, we created an alumni-endowed scholarship. This year, we will continue developing the Alumni Chapter to host CLE events for our alums, coordinate sporting events and social activities, and increase engagement with current students. We are so excited continue to grow and support our school!
What community nonprofits are you associated with?
I joined Junior League of Las Vegas in 2014. Junior League is instrumental in establishing nonprofits throughout the community — including Shade Tree Women’s Shelter, Ronald McDonald House, and the Children’s Museum. Most recently, Junior League partnered with HELP of Southern Nevada to establish the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center. I spend time each month at the Center assisting in various ways, including tutoring youth to prepare for the HiSET (High School Equivalency Test), providing life skills coaching, and preparing/serving dinner.
I also engage with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the nation’s largest non-profit dedicated to preventing suicide through advocacy and public policy, research, educational programs, and events to spread awareness.
Las Vegas is my home, and UNLV Law gave me a reason to call Las Vegas home. I give back to my community in gratitude for what it has given to me. I am proud of this city and want everyone to have the same opportunities that this city gave to me.
