Sean Claggett, Boyd class of 2003, was recently recognized by Courtroom View Network as being one of the top trial attorneys in the country. “Across more than a decade of coverage, Courtroom View Network cameras have captured the country’s best trial lawyers earning their reputations in their biggest cases. ‘Who We’re Watching’ represents the best of the best, the attorneys making headlines with the courtroom work that delivers blockbuster verdicts....They’re the attorneys we recommend any lawyer watch themselves when they’re looking to improve in their craft.” (pages.cvn.com/en/who-were-watching).

Since graduating from Boyd School of Law, Sean’s passion for learning and being in the courtroom has proven to be a perfect combination for his clients. Sean credits much of his success to his professors, especially Professors Whitney and Markell, who never stopped challenging him and pushing him to be the best student he could be. In addition to his work in the courtroom, Sean has been extremely busy presenting on numerous national webinars, including Case Analysis and TBI MedLegal, during the Covid19 crisis. Sean has also been actively engaged in giving back to his community. Specifically, Claggett & Sykes is excited to be the main sponsor for HELP of Southern Nevada this year, as HELP is celebrating its 50thyear of serving our community. Additionally, Claggett & Sykes remains committed to its continued support of Three Square.

What would be your advice to new grads?

Now is the time to think outside the box. The way law has been practiced in the past no longer exists, and there will be a new normal when things “get back to normal”. That job you thought you were going to have may not be there – this may be the best thing that has ever happened to you. I remember teaching Law Practice Management at the tail end of the great recession and there was a huge shortage of jobs for our graduates. Some of the most successful alumni from our school graduated during this time. They were forced to think outside the box, and figure out new and better ways of practicing law. We are at another crossroad and I know our alumni or soon to be alumni will revolutionize the way law is practiced for generations to come.
