Active duty in the United States Air Force and a law student - how have you managed those two formidable endeavors?
Although overwhelming at times, I attribute my perseverance (or is it sustainability?) to a few factors. First, my drive would not be where it is but for the fact that I am passionate about both endeavors. As I must approach each from a different perspective, navigating the transition between the two worlds continues to fuel my passion. It is especially rewarding observing various points of overlap between my role as an active duty member of the United States Air Force and as a student at Boyd. Another significant factor is time management. I was fortunate enough to have exceptional mentors over the past seventeen years in the military who have taught me valuable strategies for better time management. Finally, I have a fantastic support network who want to see me succeed in both the Air Force and in my education.
What's been your takeaway from your several overseas deployments?
The biggest takeaway would be the camaraderie I experienced while deployed. Working together with incredible military members to accomplish the mission created a unique connection between myself and my fellow members that very few could ever understand. Moreover, you must rely on the teamwork of those around you while downrange. Every person deployed is far from their homes and families, yet they are still able to perform at high standards to ensure the safety and success of the mission.
What is your preferred "get away from it all for a couple hours" activity?
While I am no expert, I enjoy playing golf. It’s something that I started playing when I was in middle school, and one thing the Air Force has done is put a golf course at almost every air base so I’ve been able to keep playing no matter what part of the world I’m in.
