Student Competitions 2023-2024
Hofstra National Medical-Legal Competition
The team was comprised of Elisha Lisson, Andrea Killebrew, Hannah Gagow, and Mikey Cruz. Andrea won Overall Best Advocate: Runner-Up.
Buffalo-Niagara Trial Advocacy Competition
Four students competed at the Buffalo-Niagara Trial Advocacy Competition - McCall Johnson, Charles Cahillane, Jordyn Griffin, & Hanna King. McCall and Charles won the round they competed in at the competition. Hanna was the highest scoring individual on her team and earned 3 perfect scores.
The Premiere UCLA
Mock trial members Alexandra Archambeau, Alyson Smith, Marcel Wilken-Brown, and Alisha Meschkow competed at the Premiere UCLA. The team took 5th place out of 20 teams overall, and Alyson and Alisha both received top advocate awards—Alyson within the Top 11 and Alisha in the Top 6.
National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition
Rachel Blum, Kelsey Lamph, and Samuel Pope competed at the National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition in Malibu.
Tulane International Baseball Arbitration Competition
Boyd Law’s Ryan Meservey, Sean Cosley, and Trevor Kennedy, placed 8th out of 39 teams from schools across the country at the Tulane International Baseball Arbitration Competition.
NYU Immigration Law Competition
Boyd Law students Cadence Ciesielski and Kayla Hall competed at the NYU Immigration Law Competition, where the duo made it all the way to the quarterfinals.
Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition
Boyd Law School’s Olivia VanTrease and Sydnee Mongeon recently attended the regional Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition. This competition introduces law students to important issues arising in US trademark and unfair competition law.
National Trial Competition
Two of our teams competed in the San Francisco the National Trial Competition (NTC) regionals. Both teams, comprised of 2Ls Hanna King, Jordyn Griffin, Marcel Wilken-Brown, Alyson Smith, Alisha Meschkow, and Alexandra Archambeau ranked in the top 10 out of 23 teams. Alyson Smith, Alisha Meschkow and Alexandra Archambeau even reached Third Place, nearly making it to nationals. Alyson Smith won Best Opening Statement at the competition.
ABA Regional Client Counseling Competition
Hannah Gagow and Michael Cruz, SOA’s Client Counseling team, competed in the ABA Regional Client Counseling Competition. The team won first place in their preliminary round, first place in their semi-finals, and took third place in the overall competition.
Robert F. Wagner National Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Competition
Alice Samberg and Yanaisi Gordon competed at the Robert F. Wagner National Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Competition at the New York Law School.
Jessup International Moot Court Competition
Boyd Law competed in the Jessup International Moot Court Competition. Our team consisted of Tyler Christiansen, Michael Pappas, Aika Dietz, Kelly Donahue, and Zack Carlow. Their coach was Jory Hoffman, and Kathryn Hayes was their advisor. This team had a top 10 brief, and Tyler Christensen was a top 5 oralist. They advanced to compete at Internationals in Washington, D.C, where they competed with teams from all over the world.
UC Davis Asylum and Refugee Law National Moot Court Competition
At the UC Davis Asylum and Refugee Law National Moot Court Competition, Josette Vanderlaan and Lindsay Reynolds advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated. The team’s brief took second place overall, and Josette was named the third place oralist overall.
William Institute Moot Court Competition
Boyd Law competed at the William Institute Moot Court Competition at UCLA. Our team comprised of Kathryn Hayes, Eric Lundy, and Kelsey Henderson made it to the quarterfinals—leaving as one of the top eight teams out of thirty from all over the country.
Giles S. Rich Memorial Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition
Boyd Law students Joshua Lozano, Tim Dwyer, Kiana Parkes, and Amy Zhao competed at the Giles S. Rich Memorial Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition.
John J. Gibbons Moot Court Competition
Jessica Velazquez and Alisha Meschkow competed in the John J. Gibbons Procedural Moot Court Competition in New Jersey.
University of San Diego Procedural Moot Court Competition
Molly Stubblefield and Ryan Edwards competed in the University of San Diego Procedural Moot Court Competition.
