During the competition, students argued issues they wrote about and argued in their Lawyering Process class. They argued “on-brief” and “off-brief” (i.e., for the other side). Local judges and attorneys judged the competition.
First-year law student Keith Pickard won first place in the competition. Crystal Herrera, who took second place, and the other finalists, Brian Blaylock and Brian John, are also first-year law students.
Among the semi-finalists were Boyd students Patrick McGraw, Suzanne Hyte, Jennifer Shrum, Maximilien Fetaz, Jared Beckman, Amy Ma, Ammon Francom, Hilary Heap, Morgan West, Kathleen Wilde, Taylor Hartline, Daniel Licciardi, Daniel Ryan, Teri Vela, Jocelyn Burton, Kristopher Milicevic.
Participation in the competition is a requirement of Boyd students wishing to join ... of Advocate (SOA), an honorary, co-curricular organization at the law school. To become a member, students must compete in at least the preliminary round of the competition.
The competition was held on April 24 and 25 in the law school's Thomas & Mack Moot Court Facility. It was co-sponsored by the Clark County Bar Association and the New Lawyers Committee.
