U.S. News & World Report Ranks UNLV Boyd School of Law 2nd in Legal Writing, 9th in Dispute Resolution
U.S. News & World Report ranked the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law's legal writing and dispute resolution programs among the top 10 in the nation, according to data released this week. The rankings were included in the publication's 2017 edition of the best graduate schools and specialty programs.
The law school overall was ranked 78 out of 196 accredited law schools – again securing its position as one of the country’s top 100 law schools for the 10th consecutive year.
The Boyd School of Law achieved top placement in the following specialty rankings:
- The Lawyering Process Program was ranked second in the nation—the highest it has ever placed—among the top legal writing programs. The program, which has ranked in the top five for the past 10 years, emphasizes professionalism, the relationship between legal analysis and lawyering skills, including legal writing, research, oral advocacy, client interviewing, counseling and negotiation.
- The Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution was again ranked ninth among the top programs in dispute resolution. The Saltman Center has been ranked in the top 12 for the past 10 years. Established in 2003, the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution is dedicated to advancing education in the field of alternative dispute resolution and provides a venue for the advanced study of the nature of conflict and the methods through which conflicts may be resolved.
- Among part-time law programs, UNLV's law school ranked 18, climbing up four spots from last year. Fewer than half of the country's law schools offer part-time programs, which generally take four years to complete.
“Our main goal is to keep our eye on building a better law school every day,” said Boyd School of Law Dean Daniel Hamilton. “We have built a first-rate public law school, and we couldn't be prouder of the achievements of our faculty, our students, and our alumni.”
